Hunger Alleviation

The District 410-E Hunger Alleviation Portfolio coordinator is DC Carol Browne.

Many clubs participate in projects that help feed hungry people. I conducted a survey, with electronic feedback, to ask clubs what projects they do, and if they need my input to help with anything. Based on this, and questions that have arisen in the past, I attach some documents which may help.

PDF - Information on food intake and immunity.

Excel document - The cost of energy and protein.

Word Documents – These slips are given out by Lions Cowies Hill at monthly food collection. They can be adapted for use by your club if you would like to do so.

PDF - General notes on food choices for food collection

PDF - Food requirements for a family of 4 (for a month), shows economical food choices to supply a food for a balanced eating plan. Can be adapted to be used to make up short term food assistance packages.

DC Carol has completed the first of the books that she has been working on. The intention is that clubs can share with organisations who they help out with food. Better planning of meals and menus usually results in cost savings, and usually makes the menu healthier. This means the money for food can go further.
DC Carol is working on the second book which has ideas for dishes and recipes.
